Presbyopia is a condition in which the affected person can see objects at a distance very clearly, but cannot properly see the objects close to them. It is a condition where the eye exhibits a progressively diminished ability to focus on near objects with age. It is natural part of aging and almost everyone gets it, It is a result of loss of elasticity of the crystalline lens.
Presbyopia is generally believed to stem from a loss of flexibility and
gradual thickening of the natural lens located inside the human eye.It is an age related process.
The age related changes appear within the proteins in the lens, thus making the lens less elastic and harder over a period of time.
With fewer elasticity, the eye includes a tougher time focusing up near. Other, a lesser amount of well-liked theories exist too.
It is very different to Farsightedness and nearsightedness.
Difficulty seeing dim light, difficulty seeing objects at a previously comfortable distance, headaches, tiredness and stress due to discomfort with eye, are all symptoms of Presbyopia. The people affected by it, tend to need brighter light to see more clearly.
Visual acuity, Retina examination, Refraction test, muscle integrity test, slit lamp test are some of the examinations done to check for Presbyopia.
Glasses, Lens and certain types of surgeries can help in the treatment of Presbyopia. It is very common as people age and there is nothing to fear about. But people who tend to show the signs must visit the doctor as early as possible, to prevent any complications from happening.
